What to Expect
You are encouraged to book for this Dental Wellness Package if you have not visited a dentist for more than 1 year. An early removal of plaque and tartar and detection of cavity can help to prevent any further tooth decay. At a later stage of tooth decay, one may need to undergo a root canal treatment.
Besides the daily oral care, it is advised to visit a dentist every 6 months to get a medical grade scaling and polishing. This is because plaque build-up is a natural process and unless it is cleaned using clinical dental equipment, the risks of tartar formation leading to severe gum diseases can happen.
Everyone should see a dentist for routine oral health examinations, twice-yearly cleanings, and treatment of dental problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease.
- Plaque is a naturally occurring substance that exists on the surfaces of the teeth. When plaque builds up it hardens to form calculus or tartar. Bacteria thrive in the crevices formed by the plaque and calculus, and when combined with food debris lead to increased risk of tooth decay.
- Plaque and calculus irritate the gums causing them to become inflamed. This is known as gingivitis or gum disease. Your gums and jaw bone are the foundation for your teeth. If your gums are unhealthy, the bone around your teeth can be lost. Your teeth no longer have good foundations and can no longer be held in place, they become loose and eventually fall out or have to be extracted.
